The Kids Drew On The Wall

I hate crayons, they are my mortal enemy. The kids know if I find one unattended it will go start to the trash. Has your kids ever drew on the wall? Mine have and still do, drives me crazy. Good new it is not the end of the world. Here is a couple of tricks to get that beautiful panting off the walls.

  1. Magic eraser is one of the greatest things I have ever seen. They have a new one that looks good but I have not tried it yet, Here it is.
  2. Sometimes good old Dawn soap and water will do the trick, but that will require lots of elbow grease.
  3. Every now and again one of the kids make a pretty good drawing on the wall and it is just easier to frame it, at least for a little while.
  4. Last but not least you could paint a section of your wall with chalkboard paint which is a neat way to let the kids draw on the wall but not make a giant mess. They also have magnetic paint we have not used this yet, but I will post about it when we do.
It is best to also paint with high gloss paints as they clean easier. It is important to teach the kids not to color on the walls, but they are kids and most still do. We had all the kids not coloring on the walls. I thought yes we have finally made it to the land of no more paint. Then my sweet baby started to draw on the walls and all the others must have thought, "Hey, there is something I have not done in awhile" and now we are starting all over again. As my wife says just stay calm and it will pass too. Hopefully I will make it. Stay safe out there.

Hole In The Walls

Hole In The Wall

The kids always have a knack for getting into things around here. They are always finding new and trying ways for me to learn to repair something. One thing that seems to always be happening is getting holes in walls. We have had holes from doors, holes from tables and chairs, even holes from toys. Nothing compares to getting your boys some play tool kit then finding them taking apart their train table. The boys where able to take the screw driver and get the screws to come out of the table. They took the play saw and cut into my trim. Of course they also were able to drive some "nails" which caused the holes in the wall.

I have fixed holes in wall for many year now and I like to use the light weight spackling. The light weight stuff is pink and drys white. I get a better finish with the light weight stuff. You will also need a putty knife. I like the three inch one because it is easier to feather out the edges. Last item you need is a sanding sponge, this is a handy thing for quick sanding jobs.

Step 1

Clean up the edges of the hole. Take a razor knife and make the edges of the drywall smoother.

Step 2

Apply the spackling to the hole. Let the spackle dry until it is  completely dry. If you see a little bit of pink it is not dry. I like to leave mine over night.

Step 3

Use the sanding sponge to smooth the surface. you want to get it level to the drywall. Do not over do it. If you do you will be creating a indention which will show when you finish.

Patching holes is not a hard task. It will take some time. I like to do this over a couple of days or start in the morning and finish that night. If like me you have kids you will get plenty of practice. You could pay someone but on this job it is cheaper to do it yourself. This patching will work on door and trim also.
